The Health Innovation District (Hid) is an innovation campus in Amsterdam focused on red biotech. Here, start-ups, scale-ups and knowledge institutions work together on advancements in healthcare. At the Hid, fundamental research, complex diagnostics and the development and production of medicines and vaccines are supported. The campus is located in the immediate vicinity of Amsterdam’s city center. The robust R&D capabilities within their ecosystem across diverse research disciplines are a direct result of the historic proficiency from Sanquin research and the Blood Supply Foundation, both of which are prominently located on the Hid. With a dynamic community of over 2,000 PhD students, biochemists, researchers, lab technicians, professors and other professionals specialized in production, up-scaling, clinical studies and regulatory affairs, the Hid stands as a hub of innovation. It is there that a new wave of patient-centric solutions is being conceptualized and realized.

Hid is part of the De Plantijn city district in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. This neighborhood is a collaborative venture between Sanquin, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, Cordaan, and Centrum voor Zorg Slotervaart, aiming to seamlessly combine care, research, living and education. Situated within the broader Schinkelkwartier, which bridges Amsterdam New West and South, De Plantijn is evolving to be a balanced mix of residential, healthcare, and educational facilities.
