Open Kitchen Labs is a shared and fully facilitated lab space for start-ups in sustainability and biotechnology. With a gym-like subscription model, they unburden start-ups of the logistics and up-front investments for lab infrastructure.

Open Kitchen Labs users have the unique opportunity to work in flexible conditions with fellow start-ups. Sharing of knowledge and networking with other companies active in the same industry is highly appreciated among current users. Leveraging the right connections can also be facilities through access to innovation and business events at Amsterdam Science Park.

Open Kitchen Labs has subscription plans tailored to different types of users. You can either rent flexible or dedicated bench and/or storage space for 3 or more days a week.

From now on, they also offer day passes for the lab. This is to provide R&D intensive companies even more flexibility to work on their own terms.

Open Kitchen Labs provides a fully-serviced and furnished laboratory space up to 150 m2 for start-ups who already have a proof of concept or a minimal viable product (MVP). In the lab there are general lab furniture, chemically safe lab benches equipped with compressed air and nitrogen outlets, fume hoods (with Schlenk lines), safe storages for chemicals, washing stations and common organic solvents and consumables (e.g. vials, pipettes) available.

The lab is also equipped with the following equipment: fridge, freezer, UV/vis spectrometer, oven, microbalance, water content analyser, rotary evaporator, pH-meter and conductivity meter.

Besides the fully equipped laboratory space, they provide basic chemicals, waste management services & general consumables. There is assistance with ordering of chemicals and other lab supplies. A dedicated lab-manager is present daily for on demand consultation and safety regulation.

In addition, the Open Kitchen labs can facilitate access to high-end analytical equipment at University of Amsterdam through their partner Spark904.

Also the possibility of renting lab equipment via LabMakelaar Benelux B.V. is an option here.

The Open Kitchen Labs is strategically situated in the metropolitan area of Amsterdam Science Park at the intersection of science, business & innovation. The labs are placed in the new Matrix Innovation Centre – Matrix One, a building all about sustainability. Besides access to labs, their users have access to a shared working lobby in Matrix One and they can book meeting rooms.

Open Kitchen Labs enables networking through community events and connections between members.

The focus of Open Kitchen Labs is on research in the area of sustainability & circularity. Their connection to the University of Amsterdam allows you to benefit from knowledge and the access to analytical equipment of the UvA. The UvA has research areas in sustainability, green chemistry & life sciences. Via the existing UvA spin-off Spark904 there is access to research infrastructure.

Besides laboratory facilities, basic chemical supplies, waste management services & general consumables are offered.

Open Kitchen Labs is located in Matrix One of Matrix Innovation Centre northeast of Amsterdam Science Park. They are easy to reach by train, bus and car or bike.

Amsterdam Science Park has its own train station. There is a direct train from both Amsterdam Centraal and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. From the station it’s a 10 minute walk or a 4 minutes bike ride.

From the train stations Amsterdam Amstel, Muiderpoort and Science Park you can take the bus to the Amsterdam Science Park, from where it is a 1 minute walk to the building.

Amsterdam Science Park is located within the ring in the east side of the city, near Watersgraafsmeer and is easily accessible by car from downtown or via the RING A10 (exit S113, Watergraafsmeer).

There is (paid) public parking space   and an indoor bicycle parking place with 300 spots.
